Family Housing

Milton Housing has a variety of family housing opportunities.

Section 8

The Milton Housing Authority administers 144 Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV) in Milton and Randolph. This program is designed to assist families, elderly persons and disabled families by providing rental assistance to tenants of privately owned rental units. Program participants pay a 30% minimum of their adjusted monthly income toward rental and utilities. The Milton Housing Authority then pays a Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) to the landlord for the difference between the tenant’s payment and the HUD determined Fair Market Rent (FMR). Once an applicant is awarded a voucher they can begin their housing search.  When they find a suitable unit it must meet approval from the Milton Housing Authority through an inspection, landlord contract and rent approval. The Section 8 program waiting list is administered by the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (MassNAHRO).

Mainstream

The Milton Housing Authority administers 30 Mainstream vouchers. Mainstream vouchers are part of the Section 8 program.  Mainstream Vouchers enable families having a person with disabilities lease affordable private housing of their choice. Mainstream vouchers also assist persons with disabilities who often face difficulties in locating suitable and accessible housing on the private market.

VASH

The Milton Housing Authority also administers 6 Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) vouchers. VASH is part of the section 8 program. VASH combines the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) rental assistance for homeless veterans and their families with case management and clinical services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) at its medical centers and in the community. The Milton Housing Authority administers 6 of these vouchers for the VA.

Chapter 705
The Milton Housing Authority has 12 units, 2 two-bedroom and 10 three-bedroom, under this program scattered throughout Milton. The state family housing chapter 705 program is a state-funded program aiming to provide housing for low-income families.

MRVP
Milton Housing has 4 vouchers through the Massachusetts Rental Voucher Program (MRVP). The state voucher value is a set amount determined by the tenants adjusted gross income and the household size. The tenant then pays the difference between the voucher value and what the landlord is charging for rent. The landlords rent cannot be more than the fair market rent as determined by the federal government.
